Product description

Aribert Reimann's masterpiece, 'Reimann: Lear', is a profound and evocative musical exploration that delves into the complexities of human emotion. Released on 1 January 2000 under the esteemed Universal Music label, this album is a testament to Reimann's innovative and expressive compositional style.

Clocking in at an impressive 2 hours and 23 minutes, 'Reimann: Lear' is a sweeping epic that unfolds across two parts, each comprising a series of intricately woven tracks. From the haunting 'Ich kenne deine Schüchternheit' to the dramatic 'Blast, Winde, sprengt die Backen!', Reimann's music is a rich tapestry of sound that conjures a world of intense drama and passion.

Throughout the album, Reimann's mastery of orchestration and vocal writing is on full display, as he coaxes a wide range of emotions from his performers. The interludes, such as 'Interlude I "Ist nicht das Alter lustig"' and 'Interlude III (Vocalise)', provide moments of poignant reflection, while the more dramatic tracks, like 'Sie sollen Regan den Leib aufschneiden', showcase Reimann's ability to craft music that is both powerful and unsettling.

With 'Reimann: Lear', Aribert Reimann has created a work of profound depth and complexity, one that rewards close listening and reflection. This album is a must-listen for fans of contemporary classical music, and a testament to Reimann's status as one of the most innovative and important composers of his generation.

About Aribert Reimann

Aribert Reimann, born in Berlin in 1936, was a distinguished German composer, pianist, and accompanist, renowned for his profound and evocative operas. His prolific career spanned over 70 works, with a particular focus on literary operas that brought classic texts to life on stage. Reimann's operatic masterpiece, "Lear," based on Shakespeare's "King Lear," premiered in 1978 and remains one of his most celebrated works, with the title role famously performed by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. His later opera, "Medea," adapted from Franz Grillparzer's play, premiered at the Vienna State Opera in 2010 and has since garnered critical acclaim. Reimann's contributions to music extended beyond composition; he was also a respected professor of contemporary Lied in Hamburg and Berlin. In recognition of his lifelong achievements, he was awarded the prestigious Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2011. Reimann's music, characterised by its stirring lyricism and emotional depth, continues to captivate audiences and inspire musicians worldwide.
