About Henry "Red" Allen

Henry "Red" Allen was a trailblazing American jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and bandleader, born on January 7, 1908, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Emerging in the post-Louis Armstrong era, Allen was one of the last great trumpeters from New Orleans in the 1920s, known for his innovative and individualistic style. His career spanned a diverse range of genres, including swing music, jazz, and big band, showcasing his versatility and musical prowess. Allen's dynamic playing and distinctive voice made him a standout figure in the jazz world. With a career that bridged traditional New Orleans jazz and early experimentalism, Henry "Red" Allen left an indelible mark on the music scene, captivating audiences until his passing on April 17, 1967, in New York City.
