Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless masterpiece of Italian opera with Erich Leinsdorf's exquisite rendition of Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca, S. 69." Recorded in 1957 and released by Urania Records in 2014, this album captures the essence of one of the most beloved operas in the classical repertoire. Leinsdorf, a renowned conductor, leads the Rome Opera House orchestra and chorus, delivering a performance that is both powerful and nuanced.

The album features a stellar cast, including the incomparable Zinka Milanov as Tosca, the dashing Jussi Björling as Cavaradossi, and the formidable Leonard Warren as Scarpia. Their voices blend seamlessly, creating a rich tapestry of sound that brings Puccini's dramatic score to life. From the tender "Recondita armonia" to the heart-wrenching "Vissi d'arte," each aria is performed with emotional depth and technical brilliance.

"Tosca, S. 69" is not just an album; it's a journey through the tumultuous world of love, betrayal, and political intrigue that Puccini so vividly portrays. The opera's iconic moments, such as the haunting "E lucevan le stelle" and the triumphant "Vittoria! Vittoria!" are rendered with precision and passion, showcasing the exceptional talent of both the performers and the conductor.

In addition to the complete opera, the album also includes highlights from another Puccini classic, "Il trovatore," offering a comprehensive exploration of the composer's genius. The recording's historical significance and the outstanding performances make it a valuable addition to any classical music collection.

With a duration of over two hours, this album provides a substantial and satisfying listening experience. Whether you are a seasoned opera enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Erich Leinsdorf's "Puccini: Tosca, S. 69" is sure to captivate and inspire.
