Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical piano with Byron Janis' captivating album, "Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No.3 / Rachmaninov: Piano Concerto No.1." Released in 2010 under Decca Music Group Ltd., this album is a masterful blend of two iconic piano concertos that showcase Janis' virtuosity and the orchestral brilliance of the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kirill Kondrashin.

The album opens with Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C, Op. 26, a piece known for its dynamic range and technical demands. Janis' interpretation is both powerful and nuanced, bringing out the depth and complexity of Prokofiev's composition. The second half of the album features Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 1 in F sharp minor, Op. 1, a work that highlights Janis' lyrical sensitivity and emotional depth.

In addition to these two concertos, the album includes a selection of shorter pieces by Prokofiev and Rachmaninov, providing a well-rounded listening experience. These include the Toccata, Op. 11, and the Piano Sonata No. 3 in F minor, Op. 14, as well as selections from "Lieder ohne Worte, Op. 62" and "Three Scenes from Childhood."

Byron Janis, a legendary American pianist, brings his extensive experience and deep understanding of these works to this recording. His playing is characterized by a blend of technical precision and expressive depth, making this album a standout in his discography.
