I recently purchased a brand new copy at a fantastic discounted rate. The vinyl itself is flawless. The packaging is quite impressive. The sound quality leans towards the lower frequencies. It boasts a deep bass, a pleasant midrange, and subtle highs. Overall, it's perfect for extended, fatigue-free listening sessions. And, importantly, the musical content is quite enjoyable. There are no groundbreaking surprises, but if you're a fan of Knopfler's work, you'll likely appreciate this album.
Once again, Sir Knopfler delivers some truly lovely tunes. But the pressing quality.... Oh dear Lord..... What's going on over at Mercury? Are you stomping on these with your feet and using crumpled paper? There's so much dust, static everywhere...... It's a real letdown for the price you're charging.
My copy works great. It's a solid, quiet pressing, no issues with sound quality or anything else. Maybe I just got lucky here...
Steer clear of this specific pressing, if you can. The audio quality's nearly distorted on the first LP, and side 3 of the second LP has a constant, ear-piercing screech. In short, don't waste your cash on this one.
This album truly showcases Knopfler's rootsy, blues-infused, and folk-inspired sound, blending a diverse array of styles—from gentle acoustic finger-picking to raw, swampy blues, with hints of Celtic flair that enrich the overall texture. My copy is fantastic, impressively quiet and smooth. The packaging is top-notch as well, though it could've been even better with a lyric sheet included.
