Product description

Dive into the intricate world of Julian Anderson's chamber music with "Poetry Nearing Silence," a captivating collection that spans nearly three decades of the composer's artistic evolution. Released on October 25, 2019, via NMC Recordings, this album is a testament to Anderson's mastery of the genre, featuring works that range from the early "Ring Dance" (1987) to the more recent "Van Gogh Blue" (2015).

The album kicks off with "Ring Dance," a lively and engaging piece that sets the tone for the diverse musical journey ahead. It also includes the title track, "Poetry Nearing Silence," a multi-movement work inspired by visual art and late Victorian poetry, showcasing Anderson's unique ability to blend musical and literary influences. Each movement within this suite offers a distinct atmosphere, from the contemplative "Muse in Rocks or Pebbles or Clouds or Foliage" to the evocative "In Carpathia, You Cared for New Things."

"Poetry Nearing Silence" also features the hauntingly beautiful "Prayer" and "Another Prayer," as well as the vivid "Van Gogh Blue," a five-part suite that pays homage to the famous painter's landscapes. The album's diverse repertoire is brought to life by the Nash Ensemble, conducted by Martyn Brabbins, with performances that highlight the intricate details and rich textures of Anderson's compositions.

Recorded at the Menuhin Hall in Cobham, Kent, in April 2019, this album benefits from the exceptional acoustics and the expertise of recording engineer and producer David Lefebre. With a total duration of 1 hour and 17 minutes, "Poetry Nearing Silence" is an essential addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection, offering a deep and rewarding exploration of Julian Anderson's chamber music.
