About Ignaz Pleyel

Ignaz Joseph Pleyel, born in Ruppersthal, Austria, in 1757, was a prolific and highly regarded composer, music publisher, and piano builder of the Classical period. Recognized as one of the most popular composers in Europe during his time, Pleyel's musical journey took him from his early education in Austria to France, where he spent the majority of his life. His compositions, particularly his string quartets, of which he wrote between 60 and 70, showcased his cosmopolitan influences and musical prowess. Pleyel's legacy extends beyond his compositions, as he also made significant contributions to the music industry through his publishing and piano manufacturing ventures.
