Product description

"Plays Solo Piano" is a captivating journey into the world of avant-garde and third stream jazz, masterfully crafted by the renowned pianist Ran Blake. Originally recorded in 1965 and reissued in 2013, this album is a testament to Blake's innovative spirit and technical prowess. The 10-track collection, spanning a concise 35 minutes, showcases Blake's unique ability to blend various musical influences into a cohesive and compelling whole.

The album opens with "Vanguard," setting the stage for a musical exploration that defies conventional boundaries. Blake's interpretation of standards like "Stratusphunk" and "Sleepy Time Gal" is anything but ordinary, as he weaves intricate melodies and harmonies that challenge the listener's expectations. His rendition of "On Green Dolphin Street" is particularly noteworthy, demonstrating his exceptional skill and creativity.

"Plays Solo Piano" is not just a display of technical virtuosity; it is also a deeply personal expression of Ran Blake's artistic vision. Tracks like "Eric" and "Good Morning Heartache" reveal a more introspective side of Blake, while "Lonely Woman" and "Birmingham, U.S.A." offer poignant social commentary. The album's diverse range of styles and themes makes it a fascinating listen from start to finish.

Recorded at the legendary Bell Sound Studios in New York City, this 50th Anniversary Remastered Edition has been meticulously restored to preserve the original recording's integrity while enhancing its sonic quality. Whether you're a longtime fan of Ran Blake or a newcomer to his work, "Plays Solo Piano" is an essential addition to any jazz enthusiast's collection.
