Product description

Jacques Loussier's "Play Bach, Vol. 2" is a captivating journey into the world of jazz-infused classical music, released in 1960 under the Grand Avenue label. This album is a testament to Loussier's innovative approach to interpreting the timeless compositions of Johann Sebastian Bach, blending the elegance of Baroque music with the spontaneity and rhythm of jazz. The album features a selection of Bach's works, including pieces from the Partita No. 1 in B Flat Major, such as the Allemande, Courante, Sarabande, Menuet I and II, and Gigue, as well as preludes and fugues from Bach's renowned collections. Loussier's trio, known in France as "le trio Play Bach," brings a fresh and dynamic energy to these classical pieces, creating a unique and engaging listening experience. Recorded in Paris in 1959 and 1960, the album showcases the trio's mastery of both classical and jazz genres, making it a standout release in the world of French jazz. With a duration of 37 minutes, "Play Bach, Vol. 2" is a concise yet impactful exploration of musical fusion, appealing to both classical and jazz enthusiasts alike.

This LP was released in 1970.

I hesitated a bit before purchasing this specific album during Record Store Week in Japan due to its vintage status. Having other records from the same series that have endured various forms of damage over time, I was pleasantly surprised to find this copy in pristine condition, with crystal-clear sound on flawlessly silent vinyl. It's an absolute delight to listen to the young Jacques Loussier Trio performing on period instruments, with every note so distinctly pronounced.
