Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Renaissance polyphony with Pierre de la Rue's "Incessament mon povre cueur lamente," a captivating album released in 2006. This exquisite collection, performed by the renowned ensemble Amarcord, showcases the masterful compositions of Pierre de la Rue, a prominent figure of the Franco-Flemish school of the Renaissance.

The album centers around de la Rue's most celebrated chanson, "Incessament mon povre cueur lamente," which translates to "Incessantly doth my poor heart lament." This hauntingly beautiful piece, with its intricate contrapuntal textures, serves as the inspiration for a set of mass Ordinaries that de la Rue composed. The album seamlessly weaves together these sacred and secular works, offering a rich tapestry of sound that highlights de la Rue's extraordinary skill in vocal composition.

Spanning 12 tracks and just over an hour, "Incessament mon povre cueur lamente" features a blend of requiem, medieval, and choral genres, all performed with stunning precision and artistry by Amarcord. The ensemble's clear articulation and attention to detail bring de la Rue's dense contrapuntal web to life, allowing the listener to fully appreciate the complexity and beauty of his music.

From the somber introspection of the requiem sections to the jubilant exultation of the mass Ordinaries, this album offers a comprehensive exploration of de la Rue's choral works. Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast of Renaissance music or a newcomer to the genre, "Incessament mon povre cueur lamente" promises an unforgettable journey into the heart of medieval polyphony.

About Pierre de la Rue

Pierre de la Rue, born around 1460, was a renowned Franco-Flemish composer and singer of the Renaissance, celebrated for his significant contributions to the polyphonic style that flourished in the Netherlands around 1500. A contemporary of the legendary Josquin des Prez, de la Rue's music was highly prized at the Habsburg-Burgundian court, where he served as the pre-eminent composer under Duke Philip 'the Fair' of Burgundy. His compositions, which include the influential 'Missa pro defunctis' — one of the earliest polyphonic settings of the requiem — showcase his mastery of choral and sacred music. De la Rue's work is a testament to the rich musical heritage of the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries, making him a pivotal figure in the history of Renaissance music.
