Product description

Myung-Whun Chung, renowned for his profound interpretations and dynamic performances, presents a captivating solo piano album released on April 4, 2014, under the ECM New Series label. This classical masterpiece spans a duration of 54 minutes, featuring a meticulously curated selection of timeless compositions that showcase Chung's virtuosity and artistic depth.

The album opens with Claude Debussy's iconic "Clair de Lune," a piece that immediately sets the tone for the enchanting journey that follows. Chung's rendition is marked by a delicate balance of warmth and precision, drawing the audience into the intimate world of Debussy's impressionistic masterpiece. The program continues with a diverse array of works, including Beethoven's "Bagatelle in A Minor, WoO 59" and "Für Elise," which Chung imbues with a sense of freshness and vitality. Tchaikovsky's "The Seasons, Op. 37a: X. October. Autumn Song" is rendered with a poignant expressiveness that highlights Chung's ability to convey deep emotional resonance.

Schubert's "4 Impromptus, D. 899 (Op. 90)" and Schumann's "Kinderszenen, Op. 15: VII. Träumerei" are performed with a sensitivity that captures the essence of these beloved works. The inclusion of Chopin's "Nocturne No. 8 in D-Flat Major, Op. 27 No. 2" and "Nocturne No. 20 in C-Sharp Minor, KK IVa/16" showcases Chung's mastery of the nocturne form, characterized by its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance. The album concludes with Mozart's "12 Variations on 'Ah, vous dirai-je maman', K. 265," a playful and inventive piece that demonstrates Chung's versatility and musical ingenuity.

Recorded at the prestigious Teatro La Fenice in Venice, this album benefits from the acoustic excellence of the venue, which enhances the richness and clarity of Chung's playing. The production quality is impeccable, with a warm and natural sound that brings the listener close to the piano, creating an immersive listening experience. Chung's interpretations are both technically flawless and deeply expressive, making this album a testament to his artistry and a treasure for classical music enthusiasts. Whether you are a seasoned listener or new to the world of classical piano, Myung-Whun Chung's "Piano" offers a rich and rewarding exploration of some of the most cherished works in the repertoire.
