Product description

'Phase/Transitions' is a captivating exploration into the realms of drone, avant-garde, minimalism, ambient, and experimental music, presented by the esteemed Pauline Oliveros. Released on 15 November 2014 under the Pogus label, this album is a testament to Oliveros' innovative spirit and her collaborators' technical prowess. Spanning 57 minutes across 12 tracks, 'Phase/Transitions' is a sonic journey that defies conventional genres and expectations.

At the heart of this album are the unique instruments and techniques employed by the artists. Pauline Oliveros contributes with her V-Accordion, an electronic wind instrument that she has pioneered, while Doug Van Nort brings his Granular-feedback Expanded Instrument System (GREIS) to the table, creating intricate electronic textures. Jonas Braasch's soprano saxophone adds a human touch to the electronic landscape, providing a stark contrast and a sense of warmth.

The album's artwork is as innovative as its music. David Whalen's digital paintings, created using his custom-made Jamboxx instrument, transform breath and head motions into digital expression, adding a visual dimension to the auditory experience. The graphic design by Doug Van Nort complements the artwork, creating a cohesive and immersive package.

'Phase/Transitions' is not just a collection of tracks but a carefully curated set of electro-acoustic improvisations. Each track, from the opening 'Sublimation' to the closing 'Then we were not there', offers a unique sonic experience, inviting the listener to explore the boundaries of sound and music. Whether you're a seasoned fan of experimental music or a curious newcomer, 'Phase/Transitions' promises an engaging and thought-provoking listening experience.

About Pauline Oliveros

Pauline Oliveros, a pioneering American composer and accordionist, stands as a titan in the realms of experimental and electronic music. Born in Houston, Texas, in 1932, Oliveros was a proud lesbian and feminist whose innovative spirit blazed trails through the avant-garde, drone, minimalism, and ambient genres.
