Product description

Ry Cooder's "Paradise and Lunch" is a vibrant and eclectic journey through the rich tapestry of American roots music. Released in 1974 under Warner Records, this fourth studio album showcases Cooder's exceptional talent and versatility, blending blues, country, americana, and roots rock into a cohesive and captivating collection. The album's nine tracks, spanning a total of 37 minutes, are a testament to Cooder's ability to seamlessly weave together traditional and contemporary sounds, creating a unique and engaging listening experience.

From the raw, bluesy energy of "Tamp' Em up Solid" to the soulful gospel of "Jesus on the Mainline," Cooder's masterful guitar work and thoughtful arrangements shine throughout. The album also features standout tracks like "Married Man's a Fool," a country-tinged gem, and "Mexican Divorce," which adds a touch of Tex-Mex flair. The medley of "Fool for a Cigarette / Feelin' Good" showcases Cooder's ability to blend different styles effortlessly, while "If Walls Could Talk" offers a more introspective and reflective moment.

Recorded at Warner Bros. Studios in North Hollywood and Burbank, "Paradise and Lunch" benefits from top-notch production, with each instrument and vocal clearly captured. The album's diverse influences and Cooder's innovative approach make it a standout in his discography and a must-listen for fans of roots music. Whether you're a longtime admirer of Ry Cooder or new to his work, "Paradise and Lunch" offers a compelling and enjoyable exploration of the many facets of American music.

It's no surprise that specialty stores like MoFi have re-released this; you've got the genius of RC and the flawless original recording and mastering by Lee Herschberg. Snag a pristine early pressing like this one, and you're golden!

The tunes are amazing. This is the best sounding album I've got.

  • Cooder's Blues Journey

Quite amusing, really. The majority of Ry Cooder's albums I own happen to be his contributions to Hawaiian music collections. It appears that each of his albums is a journey into a distinct musical genre. This one's a solid pick - classic country blues. Really diggin' the slide guitar throughout. And there's some gorgeous slack key work on that Mexican Divorce track too.

  • Ry Cooder Sounds Flawless

    5 out of 5 stars

Alright, sure, I haven't listened to other versions of this on vinyl to make a comparison, and I received it as a present (I know, I'm fortunate), but Cohearent Audio, also known as KPG, which is Kevin Gray + Pallas, always equals pure joy, and this one's no exception. Thick vinyl, super quiet background, ideal recording levels, amazing instrument separation, vocals right where they should be, just flawless details. You can still find this at reasonable prices, and I guarantee you, Ry Cooder never sounded this good.

  • Cooder's Bluesy Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    gvfhohucrMarch 20, 2025United States🇺🇸

At this stage of his career, Ry Cooder couldn't put a foot wrong, and given the length of his career, his discography is astonishingly impressive. "Paradise And Lunch" saunters along with an irresistible bluesy rhythm that's downright captivating. This Canadian🇨🇦 vinyl is top-notch, super quiet, zero pops & clicks, and it's like we're right there with a bunch of seasoned musicians in some tiny New Mexico club, just for one special night. 🇨🇦😎
