Someone ought to inform the Ghost Box crew that even vintage tunes, at their most obscure and uninspired, were never this dull, so devoid of ideas, character, or quirks. Never this generic synth arpeggios pizza, with John Foxx sprinkled on top like grated cheese. Ghost Box is the inevitable result of the nostalgia wave kicked off by Boards of Canada—themselves a hollow self-parody since their second album—and their discography equates to the musical counterpart of Brexit: a self-indulgent, introspective circle of Little Englanders, utterly meaningless to those seeking substance.
