Product description

Teddy Edwards, a titan of the jazz scene, delivers a masterclass in his 1989 album "Out of This World." This collection of seven tracks is a testament to Edwards' virtuosity and his deep understanding of the jazz idiom. The album, released under the esteemed SteepleChase label, is a blend of hard bop, bebop, cool jazz, and even touches of acid jazz, showcasing Edwards' versatility and mastery.

The album kicks off with the energetic "No Name No. 1," setting the tone for the rest of the record. "April Love" and "Out of This World" follow, each offering a unique perspective on the jazz standards they reinterpret. "Summertime" is featured twice, once as the original track and again as an alternate take, providing a fascinating glimpse into Edwards' creative process.

The album is a collaborative effort, with Edwards joined by the talented Kenny Drew on piano, Jesper Lundgaard on bass, and Billy Hart on drums. Their chemistry is palpable, with each musician bringing their unique voice to the ensemble. The result is a cohesive and engaging record that stands the test of time.

"Out of This World" was originally released in 1981 as a vinyl LP, but this 1989 CD reissue brings the music to a new audience. Whether you're a longtime fan of Teddy Edwards or a newcomer to his music, this album is a fantastic introduction to his style and a great addition to any jazz collection. The album's duration of 57 minutes makes it a perfect listen from start to finish, with each track flowing seamlessly into the next.
