  • Solar Fields Shines Bright

    5 out of 5 stars

I'm at a loss as to why some folks are so down on Origin # 01, as I reckon it's absolutely fantastic. Remember, these reviews are just personal opinions, so don't take 'em too hard. I made the mistake of paying too much heed to the negative ones, and it stopped me from giving this album a listen. Now that I have, I'm blown away. It's got these incredible, vast soundscapes, textures, and melodies, all with Solar Fields's signature glowing feel. I'm also really into Magnus's decision to go back in time to create this journey, as it adds a whole new layer of depth. Plus, I try not to compare his albums too much, seeing each one as its own unique masterpiece. All I expect from Solar is that luminous, expansive, top-notch quality, and he never lets me down.

  • Mixed Solar Fields Gems

    3 out of 5 stars
    LoofixuSeptember 20, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

Finding the right words for this album is quite a challenge. The concept is to present unreleased Solar Fields material spanning a considerable period. It's a great idea, but does the final product live up to it? I'd say, for Solar Fields' standards, not quite. This is one of his less impressive albums, not as captivating as some of his other works. Many of the tracks here are alright for the downtempo genre, but they don't quite meet the usual high standards. Track 1 is forgettable and average, with nothing particularly striking. Track 2, however, is one of the three standout tracks here, hypnotic and evolving just as you'd expect from Magnus. Track 3 is decent, not as good as the previous one, but it features Magnus' unique vocal style (though I wouldn't exactly call it singing), and it's a commendable attempt at creating something different and original. The tracks leading up to Embraced are also average and not particularly memorable. However, Embraced and Going In are the two other beautiful gems that make this album worthwhile. Excellent production and execution. The final track is quite an odd piece. It's quite long (almost 16 minutes) and incorporates many elements. I haven't listened to it enough to say if it's a great, inspired work or just 16 minutes of sounds leading nowhere. It starts very trancey and ends like a rock song. It's a weird piece, but definitely commendable for attempting something original. I'm sure it will grow on me later. Overall, it's a safe purchase if you're into ambient music. The sound is good but not at Solar Fields' top level. It's just above average. As a downside, apart from the music, Ultimae released this on Digifile instead of their usual Digipaks. There's no booklet, no beautiful CD digipak, it's just not the same quality as many of their other releases. I hope this is just an exception, like with the H.U.V.A. Network's Live at Glastonbury, because this downgrades the level of Ultimae.

  • Reborn: Incredible Powerful Song

I didn't plan on reviewing the whole album yet, as I've only had a chance to listen to it a couple of times, but I just had to say something about Reborn—it's an incredible song! I'm not sure how anyone couldn't like it. It's so powerful!

  • Stunning Soundscapes in Origin #01

    5 out of 5 stars
    SuvkojViiJune 18, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

I'm genuinely puzzled by the negativity surrounding Origin # 01, as I find it absolutely stunning. Remember, reviews are highly subjective, so don't take them too much to heart. I made the mistake of letting the negative feedback deter me from listening, but once I finally did, I was blown away. It's a breathtaking journey through expansive soundscapes, rich textures, and captivating melodies, all wrapped in Solar Fields's signature luminous atmosphere. I'm also really glad Magnus chose to look back in time for this album, as it adds a unique depth. And hey, I try not to compare his albums too much, seeing each as its own masterpiece. As long as Solar keeps delivering that luminous, expansive, top-notch quality, I'm happy. And he always does.

I didn't plan on reviewing the whole album since I've only gotten to listen to it a couple of times, but Reborn is just so incredible—how can you not adore it? It's absolutely breathtaking!
