I was genuinely impressed by this Jazz Images release. Given the age of the recordings, the sound quality is remarkably clear, and this vinyl pressing from a digital source is impressively free from any surface noise or distortion. This might be due to these being among the last recordings Django Reinhardt made before his passing in 1953. Initially recorded for Blue Star, but produced by Norman Granz, who released it in the U.S. on his Clef label as "The Great Artistry Of Django Reinhardt" on 10" vinyl. Just like most Jazz Images reissues, the photography is absolutely stunning.

Django's guitar shines bright and clear through a stunning mono mix. Being in Paris in '53, catching this live performance, would be the closest thing to heaven.
