Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Nikolai Myaskovsky with the release of his Symphonies No. 17 & 20, a masterful collection of orchestral works that showcase the composer's unique voice and profound musical insights. This album, performed by the talented Ural Youth Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Alexander Rudin, offers a rich and engaging journey through Myaskovsky's symphonic repertoire.

The album features two of Myaskovsky's most compelling symphonies: Symphony No. 17 in G-Sharp Minor, Op. 41, and Symphony No. 20 in E Major, Op. 50. Each symphony is a testament to Myaskovsky's ability to blend emotional depth with structural complexity, creating works that are both intellectually stimulating and deeply moving. The performances on this album are marked by their precision, passion, and a keen sensitivity to the nuances of Myaskovsky's score.

Symphony No. 17, with its dramatic and intense opening movement, sets the stage for a work that is both powerful and introspective. The second movement offers a moment of respite with its lyrical and contemplative themes, while the third movement brings a sense of energy and vitality. The symphony concludes with a movement that is both exhilarating and profound, leaving the listener with a sense of having experienced something truly special.

Symphony No. 20, on the other hand, begins with a movement that is full of spirit and energy, setting a lively and engaging tone. The second movement is a poignant and reflective interlude, while the third movement brings the symphony to a close with a sense of urgency and intensity. Throughout the work, Myaskovsky's mastery of orchestration and his ability to create compelling musical narratives are on full display.

This album, released on the Fuga Libera label, is a testament to the enduring power of Myaskovsky's music and the skill of the performers who bring it to life. Whether you are a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of orchestral works, this collection is sure to captivate and inspire. With a total duration of approximately 68 minutes, it offers a substantial and rewarding listening experience that will leave you eager to explore more of Myaskovsky's remarkable output.

About Nikolai Myaskovsky

Nikolai Myaskovsky, the "Father of the Soviet Symphony," was a prolific Russian and Soviet composer whose heartfelt music resonated with personal tragedy. Born in 1881, Myaskovsky's compositions span a wide range, including 13 string quartets and numerous sonatas for various instruments. He was a five-time recipient of the prestigious Stalin Prize, cementing his status as the Soviet Union's most honored symphonist. Myaskovsky's works, such as his powerful symphonies and evocative piano sonatas, offer a deep and emotional journey through the soundscape of early 20th-century Russia. His music continues to captivate audiences, providing a poignant glimpse into the soul of a composer who bridged the gap between traditional Russian music and the innovative spirit of the Soviet era.
