Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Nathan Milstein's "Nathan Milstein Collection, Vol. 1." This album, released on January 1, 1999, under the DOREMI label, is a testament to Milstein's virtuosity and his deep connection with the violin. Spanning a little over an hour, this collection is a blend of chamber music and classical pieces that showcase Milstein's exceptional skill and artistry.

The album opens with a captivating arrangement of "Flight of the Bumblebee" from the Tale of Tsar Saltan, followed by the meditative "Thaïs: Méditation." Milstein's live performances of pieces like the "Scherzo-tarantelle" and "Etudes-caprices, Op. 18: No. 4 in A Minor" are particularly noteworthy, showcasing his ability to bring these compositions to life with passion and precision. The album also features Milstein's interpretation of Vivaldi's "Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 26," a piece that highlights his technical prowess and expressive depth.

Milstein's rendition of "Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100" is another highlight, demonstrating his ability to convey a range of emotions through his playing. The album concludes with two caprices from Paganini's "24 Caprices for Solo Violin, Op. 1," a fitting end to a collection that celebrates the violin's versatility and Milstein's mastery of it.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, Nathan Milstein's "Nathan Milstein Collection, Vol. 1" is a must-listen. It's a chance to experience the magic of Milstein's playing and to appreciate the enduring beauty of these classical pieces.

About Nathan Milstein

Nathan Milstein, born in Odessa in 1904, was a virtuoso violinist whose career spanned over six decades, leaving an indelible mark on the classical music world. Known for his silken tone, superb technique, and stylish phrasing, Milstein was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of J.S. Bach's unaccompanied violin sonatas and works from the Romantic repertoire. His career began under the tutelage of the renowned Leopold Auer in St. Petersburg and flourished after he left Russia in 1925, touring Europe with his friend Vladimir Horowitz. Milstein's recordings, which include masterful performances of concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Bruch, are testament to his ceaseless search for fresh interpretations and his seemingly inexhaustible reservoir of fingerings. His humanity and purity of playing set him apart, earning him the title of "probably the most nearly perfect violinist of his age" by Harold C. Schonberg of the New York Times. Milstein's legacy endures through his extensive discography and the enduring influence of his artistry on generations of violinists.
