Product description

Dive into the avant-garde world of Conlon Nancarrow with this captivating 2005 reissue from Naxos, originally released by the Musical Heritage Society in 1991. This album is a testament to Nancarrow's unique and innovative compositions, showcasing his mastery of complex rhythms and unconventional instrumentation. The American expatriate composer, who spent much of his life in seclusion in Mexico City, offers a remarkable variety of pieces that challenge and delight the ear.

The album features a diverse range of works, including "Pieces for Small Orchestra," "Tango?," and "String Quartet No. 1." Each piece is a testament to Nancarrow's genius, blending traditional forms with avant-garde techniques. The "Studies for Player Piano" are particularly noteworthy, showcasing his pioneering work in mechanical music. The arrangements by Y. and Y.E. Mikhashoff add an extra layer of depth and complexity to these already intricate pieces.

The genres of avant-garde and chamber music are beautifully represented, making this a must-listen for fans of innovative and thought-provoking compositions.
