My Point of View - Eraldo Volontè

Product description

Eraldo Volonté's 'My Point of View' is a masterclass in Italian jazz, showcasing the veteran musician's unique perspective and skill. Originally recorded in 1963 at Durium Studios in Milan, this remastered release brings together five exceptional tracks, including 'Summertime', 'On Green Dolphin Street', 'You Are a Weaver of Dreams', 'So What', and 'Some Other Blues'. With the support of renowned pianist Renato Sellani, double bass player Giorgio Azzolini, and drummer Lionello Bionda, Volonté's tenor saxophone takes centre stage, blending hard bop and modal elements with hints of free jazz.

This 37-minute album, released on 11 February 2011 via Schema and Rearward, is a testament to Volonté's innovative approach and his ability to craft a distinctive sound. The result is an unbelievably great and yet somehow obscure Italian jazz record that will leave listeners eager for more. With its unexpected twists and exciting flourishes, 'My Point of View' is an essential listen for fans of jazz, and a must-have addition to any music collection. Eraldo Volonté's 'My Point of View' is a true gem, waiting to be discovered and cherished by jazz enthusiasts everywhere.

This is a 2011 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Jazz Gem from '63

    5 out of 5 stars

Incredibly fantastic and yet oddly overlooked Italian jazz from '63. It's got that hard bop and modal vibe but also teases free jazz in thrilling and surprising ways. If you couldn't see and someone said this was a lost recording by Coltrane or Ornette, you'd totally buy it. A buddy of mine even thinks this take on “So What” tops Miles'. That's some strong stuff right there.

Stunningly awesome yet somehow underrated Italian jazz from '63. It's got that hard bop and modal vibe but also teases free jazz in thrilling, unpredictable ways. If someone played this for you blindfolded, claiming it was a lost Coltrane or Ornette session, you'd totally buy it. A buddy of mine even reckons this take on “So What” tops Miles'. Blow that in your pipe and puff it.
