Honestly, I picked up the album just for the main song, but I'm playing side A now and it's got such a great feel! I think this could be a future classic. This is an awesome collection, even better than his debut "Electric Dusk" which was really good. Beneath all the modern touches (hip hop influences, use of the "n" word and explicit lyrics) - this is truly a timeless soul album filled with smooth melodies, romantic vocals, and skillful arrangements that would fit in any time period. It's perfect that this is released on the Motown label because Leon Thomas III belongs alongside the legendary artists and in some ways he's a successor to Marvin Gaye. If Gaye was still around, still making music, still on Motown, I can picture Gaye working well with this young artist. The vinyl quality is alright - the pressing was a bit noisy, the mastering slightly compressed and a tad "muddy" on some songs (like I Do). A good clean and we were set. The tracks are consistently great, and the vocal and musical performances are captivating - overall an excellent Soul music release for 2024.
