About I-Roy

I-Roy, born Roy Samuel Reid on June 28, 1944, in St. Thomas, Jamaica, was a pioneering deejay and toaster whose distinctive style and witty commentary made him one of the most influential figures in Jamaican music during the 1970s. Alongside legends like U-Roy, Dennis Alcapone, and Big Youth, I-Roy redefined the art of deejaying, blending roots reggae, rocksteady, and dub into a unique and engaging sound. His prolific career left an indelible mark on the genre, showcasing his non-stop commentary on Jamaican life and culture. With a career spanning from the 1960s to the 1990s, I-Roy's music continues to resonate with fans worldwide, offering a vibrant and authentic glimpse into the heart of Jamaican music.
