About David Grisman

David Grisman is a trailblazing mandolinist and composer who has spent nearly four decades crafting a unique blend of bluegrass, folk, and jazz, a genre he affectionately calls "Dawg music." Born on March 23, 1945, in Hackensack, New Jersey, Grisman's innovative style owes as much to jazz as it does to traditional American folk and bluegrass influences. As the founder of the David Grisman Quintet and the record label Acoustic Disc, he has left an indelible mark on the music world. His collaborations, notably with the late Jerry Garcia, have further cemented his reputation as a master acoustic instrumentalist. With a career spanning over four decades, David Grisman continues to inspire and captivate audiences with his distinctive sound and genre-defying compositions.
