Product description

Immerse yourself in a captivating live performance with the legendary Martha Argerich and the renowned cellist Mischa Maisky. Recorded at Flagey in Brussels in 2003, this album captures the electrifying chemistry between these two virtuosos as they navigate a diverse repertoire of classical masterpieces. The concert opens with Stravinsky's Suite Italienne from Pulcinella, showcasing the duo's impeccable synchronicity and technical brilliance. Argerich's piano and Maisky's cello intertwine seamlessly, bringing to life the intricate melodies and rhythms of this neo-classical suite. The program continues with Prokofiev's Cello Sonata, Op. 119, a work that highlights the emotional depth and expressive range of both artists. The second half of the concert features Shostakovich's Cello Sonata in D Minor, Op. 40, a profound and introspective piece that demonstrates the duo's ability to convey the full spectrum of human emotion through their music. The concert concludes with a waltz from Khachaturian's The Tale of the Stone Flower, a lively and enchanting piece that leaves the audience in awe. With a total duration of 1 hour and 12 minutes, this album is a testament to the enduring power of classical music and the magic that can happen when two world-class musicians share the stage. Released on Deutsche Grammophon in 2005, this live recording is a must-listen for any fan of classical music.
