Product description

In the vibrant landscape of jazz fusion, Miroslav Vitous stands as a titan, and his 1984 self-titled album "Miroslav" is a testament to his virtuosity. This captivating collection of six tracks, spanning a concise yet impactful 36 minutes, is a blend of jazz fusion, jazz, and free jazz that showcases Vitous' mastery of the double bass and his innovative approach to composition.

Recorded under the label 1201 MUSIC, this album is a sonic journey that begins with the evocative "Watching The Sunset Run" and concludes with the introspective "Sonata For A Dream." Each track is a unique exploration of sound, with "Bassamba" and "Tiger In The Rain" highlighting Vitous' rhythmic prowess, while "Concerto In E Minor" and "Pictures From Moravia" demonstrate his melodic depth.

Vitous, a graduate of the Prague Conservatory of Music, brings a rich educational background to his music. His role as the Chairman of the Jazz Department at the New England Conservatory of Boston from 1984 to 1987 further underscores his commitment to the art form. The album "Miroslav" is a product of this deep understanding and passion for jazz.

Collaborating with fellow bassist Stanley Clarke in 1984, Vitous continued to push the boundaries of jazz fusion. His performances at prestigious events like the Woodstock Jazz Festival and the North Sea Festival further cemented his status as a jazz fusion pioneer.

"Miroslav" is not just an album; it's a snapshot of a moment in time, capturing the essence of jazz fusion in the 1980s. It's a celebration of improvisation, innovation, and the endless possibilities of sound. Whether you're a seasoned jazz enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding listening experience.

This is a 1988 Reissue released as a LP.
