Product description

Dive into the captivating world of classical music with "Milestones of a Legend: Nathan Milstein, Vol. 9," a remarkable collection of violin masterpieces performed by the legendary Nathan Milstein. Released in 2019 under Intense Media GmbH, this album spans a concise yet impactful 48 minutes, featuring a selection of chamber music and classical compositions that showcase Milstein's unparalleled virtuosity and artistic depth.

The album opens with the Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op. 82, a three-movement work that highlights Milstein's technical prowess and expressive range. Accompanied by the RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra under the direction of William Steinberg, this concerto is a testament to Milstein's ability to convey both the intensity and subtlety of the composition. The album also includes a selection of shorter pieces, such as the Meditation in D Major, Op. 32, and the Introduction & Rondo capriccioso in A Minor, Op. 28, R. 188, each offering a glimpse into Milstein's versatility and mastery of the violin.

In addition to these well-known works, the album features lesser-known pieces like the Chaconne in G Minor, attributed to Tomaso Antonio Vitali, and the Introduction & Tarantella, Op. 43. These selections provide a unique opportunity to explore Milstein's interpretation of less frequently performed compositions, adding a layer of depth and variety to the album.

Nathan Milstein, a name synonymous with violin excellence, brings his signature elegance and precision to each piece. His playing is characterized by a rich, resonant tone and a deep understanding of the musical language, making this album a treasure trove for both seasoned classical music enthusiasts and those new to the genre. Whether you're a fan of Milstein's work or simply appreciate the beauty of classical music, this album is sure to captivate and inspire.

About Nathan Milstein

Nathan Milstein, born in Odessa in 1904, was a virtuoso violinist whose career spanned over six decades, leaving an indelible mark on the classical music world. Known for his silken tone, superb technique, and stylish phrasing, Milstein was particularly celebrated for his interpretations of J.S. Bach's unaccompanied violin sonatas and works from the Romantic repertoire. His career began under the tutelage of the renowned Leopold Auer in St. Petersburg and flourished after he left Russia in 1925, touring Europe with his friend Vladimir Horowitz. Milstein's recordings, which include masterful performances of concertos by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, and Bruch, are testament to his ceaseless search for fresh interpretations and his seemingly inexhaustible reservoir of fingerings. His humanity and purity of playing set him apart, earning him the title of "probably the most nearly perfect violinist of his age" by Harold C. Schonberg of the New York Times. Milstein's legacy endures through his extensive discography and the enduring influence of his artistry on generations of violinists.
