Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Felix Mendelssohn with his captivating "Piano Concertos 1 & 2" album. Released on September 1, 2006, under the Musikproduktion Dabringhaus und Grimm label, this collection is a testament to Mendelssohn's mastery of classical and chamber music. The album spans a concise yet impactful 67 minutes, offering a rich tapestry of compositions that showcase Mendelssohn's genius.

The album opens with the powerful and fiery "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 25," followed by the introspective and lyrical "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 40." These concertos are not just technical showcases but also deeply expressive works that reveal Mendelssohn's ability to blend virtuosity with profound emotional depth.

In addition to the concertos, the album features a selection of Mendelssohn's "Songs without Words" (Sechs Lieder ohne Worte), including the soothing "Wiegenlied in E Major" and the melancholic "Trauermarsch in E Minor." These pieces are perfect examples of Mendelssohn's knack for creating evocative melodies that speak directly to the heart.

Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a rewarding listening experience. Mendelssohn's compositions are timeless, and this collection is a wonderful introduction to his piano works. Dive into the world of Felix Mendelssohn and let the beauty of his music unfold.

About Felix Mendelssohn

Felix Mendelssohn, born into a wealthy banking family in Hamburg in 1809, was a prodigious talent whose influence on the Romantic period is immeasurable. A child prodigy, Mendelssohn excelled not only in music but also in painting, poetry, athletics, and linguistics. His compositions, which include symphonies, concertos, and chamber music, are renowned for their optimism and life-enhancing qualities, earning him the title of one of the 'Sunshine Composers.'

Mendelssohn's repertoire is vast and varied, with standout works including the enchanting overture and incidental music for "A Midsummer Night's Dream," the evocative "Italian" and "Scottish" Symphonies, and the beloved oratorios "St. Paul" and "Elijah." His "Songs Without Words" for solo piano are particularly celebrated, offering a glimpse into his deep emotional range. Beyond his compositions, Mendelssohn was also an accomplished artist, capturing scenes from his travels through England and Scotland in sketches.

Despite his untimely death at the age of 38 in 1847, Mendelssohn's legacy endures, celebrated for his contributions to classical music and his enduring influence on the Romantic era. His music continues to inspire and uplift, a testament to his enduring genius.
