  • Scratched Columbia Pressing

    4 out of 5 stars

I'm checking out another pressing of this fantastic album by GVE. This time it's a Columbia 6-eye version. The sound quality is impressive, but my copy has some scratches that are causing some unwanted noise. Given the intricate nature of this music, especially with the frequent guitar solos, you'd really want a VG+ copy to fully appreciate it.

  • Van Eps' Jazz Guitar Brilliance

    4 out of 5 stars
    gejiCC_February 22, 2024United States🇺🇸

To all the 7-string jazz guitar enthusiasts out there, George Van Eps is our guiding light. This 1957 album showcases a series of band arrangements with George on guitar. His pacing is mostly in the ballad to mid-tempo swing range, with a few solo guitar and combo tracks. His playing is crisp, and his melodies are inventive. He uses moving inner harmonies, which brings an extra layer of intrigue to the music. The recording quality is excellent, and George's tone is delightful. Highly recommended.
