Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Teizo Matsumura's symphonic masterpieces with the 2011 release, "Matsumura: Symphonies Nos. 1 & 2 / To the Night of Gethsemane." This compelling album showcases the brilliance of Teizo Matsumura, a composer whose work is both evocative and deeply resonant.

The album features two complete symphonies and a poignant solo piano piece, "To the Night of Gethsemane," performed by the talented Ikuyo Kamiya. The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, under the skilled direction of Takuo Yuasa, brings Matsumura's compositions to life with a rich, dynamic sound that spans a full hour of listening pleasure.

Symphony No. 1 unfolds in three distinct movements: the contemplative "Andante," the serene "Adagio," and the spirited "Allegro." Each movement offers a unique emotional landscape, showcasing Matsumura's ability to craft intricate, engaging musical narratives.

Symphony No. 2, also in three movements, presents a different facet of Matsumura's genius. The first and third movements, marked by a half note tempo of 50, are framed by a second movement with a quarter note tempo of 46, creating a sense of both urgency and introspection.

The album concludes with "To the Night of Gethsemane," a solo piano piece that is both haunting and beautiful, offering a moment of quiet reflection amidst the grandeur of the symphonies.

Recorded and released by Naxos, this album is a testament to Matsumura's enduring legacy and the power of orchestral music to inspire and move. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album is sure to captivate and enchant.
