Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of classical music with Amy Beach's "Mason: Prelude & Fugue for Piano & Orchestra, Op. 20 - Beach: Piano Concerto in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 45." Released in 1976 under the Vox label, this album is a testament to Beach's mastery of chamber music, showcasing her intricate compositions and profound musicality.

The album opens with Daniel Gregory Mason's "Prelude & Fugue for Piano & Orchestra, Op. 20," a piece that sets the stage with its complex and engaging structure. Following this, Amy Beach's "Piano Concerto in C-Sharp Minor, Op. 45" takes center stage, a work that premiered in 1900 with Beach herself as the soloist. Dedicated to the renowned pianist Mme. Teresa Carreno, this concerto is a cornerstone of Beach's repertoire, known for its lyrical beauty and technical brilliance.

Performances by Siegfried Landau, Mary Louise Boehm, and the Westphalian Symphony Orchestra bring these compositions to life with precision and passion. The album's duration of 45 minutes ensures a concise yet fulfilling listening experience, making it a perfect addition to any classical music enthusiast's collection. Whether you're a seasoned listener or new to the genre, this album offers a rich and rewarding journey through the works of two remarkable composers.

About Amy Beach

Amy Beach, born Amy Marcy Cheney, was a pioneering American composer and pianist who broke barriers in the male-dominated world of classical music. As a child prodigy, she made her public debut as a pianist at just sixteen, showcasing her remarkable talent and setting the stage for a groundbreaking career. Beach is renowned for her "Gaelic" Symphony, the first symphony composed and published by an American woman, premiered by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1896. Her Piano Concerto, completed in 1900, further cemented her status as a trailblazer. Beach's compositions, which span chamber music and orchestral works, are celebrated for their emotional depth and technical brilliance. Throughout her life, she performed extensively, earning acclaim both in the United States and internationally, particularly in Germany. Her legacy endures as a testament to her innovative spirit and enduring musical contributions.
