About Mary Martin

Mary Martin, born Maria Virginia Martin in Weatherford, Texas, was a legendary American actress and singer who captivated audiences with her enchanting performances on Broadway. Often hailed as America's favorite leading lady during the golden age of musical comedy, Martin was a muse to the iconic duo Rodgers and Hammerstein, originating iconic roles such as Nellie Forbush in "South Pacific," the titular character in "Peter Pan," and Maria von Trapp in "The Sound of Music." Her career was marked by sensational performances, including her role in Kurt Weill's "One Touch of Venus," for which she won a Donaldson Award. Martin's talent and charm extended beyond the stage, earning her the prestigious Kennedy Center Honoree in 1989. Offstage, she was the proud mother of actor Larry Hagman, further cementing her legacy in the entertainment industry.
