Product description

Immerse yourself in the intricate and captivating world of Manuel Rosenthal's piano works with the album "Manuel Rosenthal, Piano Works." Released on January 1, 1993, under the Etcetera label, this collection offers a rich tapestry of compositions that showcase Rosenthal's versatility and mastery of the piano. Spanning a duration of 1 hour and 3 minutes, the album is a journey through a variety of musical styles and moods, from the delicate and lyrical to the playful and energetic.

The album opens with "Huit bagatelles," a series of eight short pieces that highlight Rosenthal's ability to craft beautiful melodies and intricate harmonies. Each bagatelle offers a unique character, ranging from the pastoral "Pastorale" to the jazzy "Remember (Fantaisie jazz)." Following this, "Valse des pêcheurs à la ligne" and "Six caprices" continue to explore different facets of Rosenthal's musical personality, with the latter piece showcasing his virtuosic technique and imaginative spirit.

"Sérénade" is another standout suite, featuring the enchanting "Sinfonia" and the playful "Scherzo, à la mémoire de Frédéric Chopin." The album concludes with "Les petits métiers," a delightful series of pieces that depict various trades and occupations, each with its own distinct musical character and charm.

About Manuel Rosenthal

Manuel Rosenthal, born in Paris in 1904, was a distinguished French composer and conductor whose career spanned the globe, leaving an indelible mark on the classical music scene. A protégé of Maurice Ravel, Rosenthal was the last surviving pupil of the renowned composer, offering unique insights into Ravel's personality and lighter side. His own compositions, while varied, are perhaps best known for his spirited orchestration of Jacques Offenbach's operettas, notably the lively ballet score 'Gaîté Parisienne'. Rosenthal's conducting career was equally impressive, with notable engagements in both France and the United States. His recordings as a conductor are cherished by music enthusiasts worldwide, showcasing his deep understanding and passion for the repertoire. Rosenthal's legacy endures through his compositions and his influential role in preserving and promoting the works of his contemporaries.
