Wow, what an amazing album!!! Her voice is absolutely perfect for this genre, the way it shimmers with vibrato is breathtaking, and the jazz orchestration is out of this world. She's easily one of my favorite singers ever. If you're into that mid-century, lounge club jazz vibe, defiantly grab a copy for yourself!
Rosemary Clooney is an extraordinary vocalist who dominated the '50s scene. However, in my opinion, her later voice (from the 70s-80s) was more mature and expressive. This collection on Concord Jazz is a fantastic assortment of classic standards and popular contemporary hits, all masterfully interpreted. She truly shines when performing somber love songs, bringing a unique, melancholic depth to her delivery. It's absolutely enchanting. Now, let me tell you about Cal Collins on guitar. This guy is incredible. He brings an immense amount of talent to the session, unleashing his fury in short, powerful bursts of eight measures. I've since been on a mission to collect all of Cal Collins' records, as I'm completely hooked on his music. And if Cal weren't enough, the ensemble also includes Vache, Pierce, Tjader, and Jake Hanna, making this a dream team of jazz greats. They swing with such energy and provide an outstanding backdrop for Rosemary's vocal prowess. Highly recommended.
