Born in Hamburg, Missouri, in 1922, Sutton emerged as one of the greatest stride pianists post-World War II, standing shoulder to shoulder with legends like Dick Wellstood. With a career spanning over five decades, Sutton's expansive discography showcases his virtuosic technique and deep-rooted musicality. Before his musical career took off, he served in the US Army during World War II and even had a stint as a session musician with Jack Teagarden's band. Sutton's contributions to jazz have left an indelible mark, making him a beloved figure among fans and critics alike.
