The surface noise is a bit uneven, but that's typical for a zoetrope release. However, the live recording's quality and richness are truly impressive.
This isn't audiophile-grade, but it's a fantastic record that encapsulates the vibrancy and happiness of emerging from Covid isolation. It resonates with a particular moment in time, draws you in, and the audience amplifies their energy. There are a few crackles I can still hear after cleaning on sides D & E, but apart from that, it's quite clean. The vibe this engineers evoke reminds me of a story I heard from a concert not long after Covid. They shared how devastating it was for musicians, with touring income vanishing. They were taking up painting jobs and even 'carpet square' gigs, where you'd be confined to a tiny area in someone's garage or backyard. Their first proper gig post-lockdown was much smaller than usual, but it felt great to be back. After the show, the crew invited them out for a drink, and on the walk to the bar, they teared up... with relief, joy, and a glimmer of hope. It was the camaraderie they missed the most.
