I got really stoked when I stumbled upon this pressing at a record shop and immediately checked it out on Discogs to see the “Avg Rating” and if there were any user comments. With its high rating, I decided to splurge over $30. I've now listened to both discs, gave them a wet clean, and spun them again. The sound's lacking in bass and punch throughout most tracks, and there's also issues with ticks and pops during quieter sections. As others have noted, this should've been spread across 3 LPs since they've packed 30 minutes of music on each side, which definitely impacts the sound, especially the bass. I'm all about listening to music as it was meant to be heard, through high-quality floor speakers and dual subs. I get that the “Avg Rating” on Discogs is just a “guide,” but seriously, this one's rated way too high. Giving it 3 stars is being pretty generous.
Fantastic live album. The one thing I'm not too keen on is the fade-out / fade-in between each song... it somewhat diminishes the concert's energy. There are video recordings from this tour with extended tracklists that truly encapsulate the spirit of their live performance. CD packaging features red text.
Without a doubt, the greatest live album ever made! I owned the CD version for ages before finally getting my hands on this Vinyl Record. Fantastic Quality!
I've got the gold Walmart version of this 50th anniversary release. I was a tad worried about picking it up due to what I'd heard regarding this pressing, but it sounds fantastic to me! It won't give you that studio album experience, but it's really quite good. The volume is just fine and there's no unwanted noise.
Awesome sound quality, though it's a bit light on bass and the record has some annoying pops and crackles. I've given it a couple of spins through my Spin Clean and HumminGuru, plus a manual wet clean on side 1, which was the worst of the bunch. It's about 70% better now but still has some noisy bits. Might look into the 50th anniversary edition to see if it's improved...though it's colored vinyl, which isn't my thing.
