Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Franz Lehár's "Der Zarewitsch," a captivating operetta that stands as a testament to the composer's mastery of the genre. Originally premiered in 1927, this operetta marks a significant phase in Lehár's career, where his compositions delve into more serious and profound themes, setting it apart from his earlier, lighter works.

This album, released on December 5, 2014, under The Art of Singing label, offers a comprehensive journey through the operetta's three acts, spanning a total of 52 minutes. The tracklist features a series of beautifully crafted arias and ensembles, each showcasing Lehár's unique ability to blend operatic grandeur with the charm of operetta. From the poignant "Es steht ein Soldat am Wolgastrand" to the lively "Trinkt man auf du und du," every piece is a gem that highlights the operetta's rich narrative and musical depth.

"Der Zarewitsch" is not just an operetta; it is a masterful blend of romance, intrigue, and cultural richness, set against the backdrop of imperial Russia. About Franz Lehár

Franz Lehár, born in 1870 in Komárno, Kingdom of Hungary (now Slovakia), was a renowned Austro-Hungarian composer who left an indelible mark on the world of operetta. Throughout his illustrious career spanning over five decades, Lehár enchanted audiences with his lighthearted and comic works, becoming one of the most significant composers of operetta in classical music history. His most celebrated creation, "The Merry Widow" (Die lustige Witwe), achieved global acclaim and remains his most famous piece. Lehár's compositions are celebrated for their fine craftsmanship and enduring charm. Despite initial aspirations towards grand opera, it was his operettas that secured his legacy, making him the leading composer of operettas in the 20th century. Lehár passed away in Bad Ischl in 1948, leaving behind a substantial body of work that continues to captivate and inspire.
