Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Fritz Kreisler with "Kreisler: The Complete Recordings, Vol. 5 (1919-1924)". This captivating collection, released by Naxos in 2013, offers a rich tapestry of classical music that showcases Kreisler's extraordinary talent as both a violinist and a composer. Spanning a little over an hour and eighteen minutes, this album features 25 tracks that blend Kreisler's own compositions with his masterful arrangements of works by other renowned composers.

The album opens with the evocative "Sadko: Song of the Indian Guest," arranged by Kreisler himself for violin and orchestra, setting the stage for a journey through a diverse range of musical styles and moods. From the hauntingly beautiful "Verlassen bin i" to the lively "Toy Soldier's March," each piece is a testament to Kreisler's versatility and virtuosity. Notable highlights include the delicate "Apple Blossoms: Who Can Tell?" and the enchanting "Lotus Land," both arranged by Kreisler for violin and piano.

Kreisler's arrangements of works by other composers, such as Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scheherazade" and Grieg's "Lyric Pieces," demonstrate his deep understanding and appreciation of their musical languages. His ability to adapt these pieces for violin and piano or violin and orchestra adds a unique perspective, making them feel both familiar and fresh.

This volume is part of a series that captures Kreisler's recordings from the early 20th century, providing a historical snapshot of his artistry. The collaboration with The Victor Orchestra and other notable artists of the time adds depth and richness to the performances. Whether you're a longtime fan of classical music or a newcomer looking to explore the genre, this album offers a rewarding listening experience that highlights the enduring legacy of Fritz Kreisler.

About Fritz Kreisler

Fritz Kreisler, born in Vienna in 1875, was a virtuoso violinist and composer whose name became synonymous with elegance and expressiveness in classical music. Known for his distinctive sweet tone and emotive phrasing, Kreisler's performances were marked by his unique use of vibrato, slides, and rubato, which set him apart from his contemporaries. His style, while influenced by the Franco-Belgian school, carried the warmth and charm of pre-war Vienna, making his music instantly recognizable.

Kreisler's career was as diverse as it was illustrious. He won first prize in the Paris Conservatory's violin competition at the age of 12, and by 1888, he had made his New York debut, quickly rising to become one of the world's leading performers. Beyond his virtuosity, Kreisler was also a prolific composer, penning numerous original works, operettas, and cadenzas, as well as pastiches that he famously passed off as works by Bach and Vivaldi, much to the delight and occasional bewilderment of his audience.

Throughout his life, Kreisler's journey took him across two continents, from his early days in Vienna to his later years in the United States. His performances and recordings of works by Beethoven, Bach, Grieg, and more became legendary, cementing his status as one of the greatest violinists of his era. Kreisler's legacy endures not just in his music, but in the charm and romance he brought to every performance, making him a beloved figure in the world of classical music.
