Product description

Immerse yourself in the timeless elegance of classical music with Géza Anda's "Klemperer Live: Cologne, Vol. 3 – Concert 5 April 1954." This captivating album, released on August 4, 2017, by Archiphon, is a testament to the enduring brilliance of Géza Anda's piano prowess and the orchestral mastery of Otto Klemperer. The album features a live recording of a concert held on April 5, 1954, in Cologne, offering a rare glimpse into the historical performances of the era.

The album showcases two monumental works: Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-Flat Major, Op. 83, and Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 4 in E-Flat Major, WAB 104, also known as the "Romantic" symphony. Géza Anda's virtuosic performance of the Rachmaninoff concerto is a highlight, with each movement—from the majestic "Allegro non troppo" to the delicate "Allegretto grazioso"—displaying his technical precision and emotional depth.

The Bruckner symphony, conducted by Otto Klemperer, is a powerful and sweeping orchestral journey. The "Bewegt, nicht zu schnell" opening movement sets the stage for a rich and dynamic performance, while the "Andante quasi allegretto" and "Scherzo" movements showcase the orchestra's nuanced expressiveness. The finale, "Bewegt, doch nicht zu schnell," brings the symphony to a triumphant close.

With a total duration of 1 hour and 39 minutes, this album is a comprehensive exploration of two of classical music's most celebrated works. Géza Anda's artistry and Otto Klemperer's conducting make this a live recording that stands the test of time, offering both seasoned classical enthusiasts and newcomers a chance to experience the magic of these compositions in a live setting.
