Product description

Aaron Jay Kernis, an acclaimed American composer, presents a captivating collection of orchestral works in his album "Colored Field/Musica Celestis/Air." Released in 2001 under the Erato/Warner Classics label, this album is a testament to Kernis's mastery of minimalism, a genre known for its repetitive structures and subtle, gradual changes.

The album features the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Eiji Oue, and the renowned Norwegian cellist Truls Mørk, who delivers a mesmerizing performance throughout. The centerpiece of the album is the "Colored Field" concerto for cello and orchestra, a three-movement work that explores a wide range of emotions and musical textures. The concerto is divided into three parts: "Colored Field," "Pandora Dance," and "Hymns and Tablets," each offering a unique listening experience.

"Musica Celestis," another highlight of the album, is a serene and contemplative piece that showcases the cello's lyrical qualities. The album concludes with "Air," a short but evocative piece that leaves a lasting impression.

With a total duration of 64 minutes, this album is a perfect introduction to Kernis's minimalist style, characterized by its intricate rhythms, harmonic complexity, and rich orchestration. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, "Colored Field/Musica Celestis/Air" is sure to captivate and inspire.
