About Alex Acuña

Alex Acuña is a renowned Peruvian-American jazz drummer and percussionist, celebrated for his dynamic performances and extensive contributions to the music industry. Born on December 12, 1944, in Pativilca, Peru, Alex's musical journey began at a young age, playing in local bands by the time he was ten. His career took off when he joined the legendary Perez Prado's band at just 18 years old. Moving to Puerto Rico in 1967 and later to Las Vegas in 1974, Alex's talent and versatility led him to become a sought-after session musician, amassing over 900 recording credits.

Alex gained international acclaim as a member of the groundbreaking jazz fusion band Weather Report in 1975. His work in the studio and on stage has been nothing short of prolific, with credits ranging from film scores to concert performances. Beyond his performance career, Alex is also a respected educator, having taught at prestigious institutions like the University of California, Los Angeles, Berklee College of Music, and more.

With a career spanning decades, Alex Acuña continues to inspire with his mastery of Latin jazz and jazz fusion, making him a true legend in the world of percussion.
