About Johann Ludwig Bach

Johann Ludwig Bach, born on February 4, 1677, in Thal, Germany, was a gifted composer and violinist, best known for his significant contributions to choral music. As a second cousin of the renowned Johann Sebastian Bach, Johann Ludwig held esteemed positions at the court in Meiningen from 1703 until his death in 1731, earning him the moniker "the Meiningen Bach." His sacred choral works, including two masses, a Magnificat setting, 23 sacred cantatas, and 11 motets, showcase his deep musical engagement and mastery. Beyond his compositions, Johann Ludwig Bach was also a dedicated court musician and Kapellmeister, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of Baroque music.
