Product description

Immerse yourself in the masterful conducting of Eugen Jochum with the eagerly anticipated release, "Jochum Portrait, Vol. 8," set to drop on September 22, 2025, under Urania Records. This exquisite collection showcases two of Jochum's most celebrated symphonic works: Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 4 in A major, Op. 90 "Italian," and Brahms' Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73. Each piece has been meticulously remastered for 2025, ensuring a crisp, immersive listening experience that highlights Jochum's nuanced interpretations and the orchestra's virtuosity.

The album opens with Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony, a vibrant and picturesque journey through the composer's experiences in Italy. Jochum's conducting brings out the lively character of the first movement, "Allegro vivace," and the graceful elegance of the "Andante con moto." The third movement, "Con moto moderato," is a tender interlude, while the final "Saltarello. Presto" is a whirlwind of energy and rhythm.

The second half of the album features Brahms' Symphony No. 2, a work known for its rich harmonies and emotional depth. Jochum's interpretation of the "Allegro non troppo" is both powerful and refined, setting the stage for the introspective "Adagio non troppo." The third movement, "Allegretto grazioso (quasi andantino) - Presto ma non assai," showcases Jochum's ability to balance grace and intensity, while the final "Allegro con spirito" is a triumphant conclusion.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 8 minutes, "Jochum Portrait, Vol. 8" is a testament to Eugen Jochum's enduring legacy as one of the most distinguished conductors of the 20th century. Whether you're a seasoned classical enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a captivating exploration of two symphonic masterpieces, performed with unparalleled artistry and precision.
