Product description

János Starker, a name synonymous with virtuosity and artistry in the world of classical music, presents a captivating collection of 20th-century cello concertos in his album "János Starker Plays Hindemith, Prokofiev & Rautavaara." Released on May 18, 2018, under the SWR Classic label, this album is a testament to Starker's enduring legacy and his unparalleled mastery of the cello.

The album features nine tracks, spanning a total duration of 1 hour and 14 minutes, showcasing the works of three prominent composers: Paul Hindemith, Sergei Prokofiev, and Einojuhani Rautavaara. Starker's interpretation of these pieces is a blend of technical brilliance and profound musicality, offering a unique perspective on each composer's distinctive style.

The album opens with Hindemith's Cello Concerto, a piece known for its complex rhythms and intricate harmonies. Starker navigates these challenges with ease, delivering a performance that is both precise and expressive. The Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante in E Minor, Op. 125, follows, showcasing Starker's ability to convey a wide range of emotions through his playing. The final piece, Rautavaara's Cello Concerto No. 1, Op. 41, is a tour de force that highlights Starker's virtuosity and his deep understanding of the cello's expressive capabilities.

Throughout the album, Starker is accompanied by the SWR Symphonieorchester, conducted by Herbert Blomstedt. The orchestra's nuanced playing and Starker's exceptional skill create a harmonious blend that brings each piece to life. The album is a must-listen for classical music enthusiasts and anyone seeking to experience the profound beauty of the cello.
