About Jackie Mittoo

Jackie Mittoo, born Donat Roy Mittoo on March 3, 1948, in Brown's Town, Jamaica, was a keyboard virtuoso and a true legend of reggae. As a founding member of the iconic Skatalites and an extraordinarily prolific songwriter, Mittoo's music transcends the boundaries of reggae, blending elements of soul, funk, gospel, and R&B. His eclectic sounds and instrumental prowess are showcased in tracks like "Atom Sounds" and "Big Bad Organ," offering a rich tapestry of rocksteady, dub, roots reggae, ska, and soul jazz. Mittoo's legacy continues to inspire, with compilations like "Reggae Magic" and "Best of Jackie Mittoo" capturing his timeless contributions to music. His passing on December 16, 1990, in Toronto, Canada, left a void in the music world, but his extraordinary body of work endures, inviting listeners to explore the depths of his genre-defying artistry.
