Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich symphonic world of Jānis Ivanovs with his album "Symphonies Nos. 5 and 12." Released in 1996 under the Marco Polo label, this album showcases two of Ivanovs' most compelling orchestral works, performed by the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dmitry Yablonsky. Spanning a total of 66 minutes, the album is a testament to Ivanovs' mastery of symphonic composition, blending intricate melodies with powerful, evocative themes.

Symphony No. 5 opens with a majestic "Moderato, maestoso" that gradually builds into an energetic "Allegro," setting the stage for the emotional journey that follows. The second movement, "Andante," offers a moment of reflection, while the third movement, "Allegro," brings a sense of urgency and excitement. The symphony concludes with a "Moderato" that ties the entire piece together in a satisfying resolution.

Symphony No. 12, subtitled "Sinfonia Energica," lives up to its name with a dynamic and spirited performance. The first movement, "Moderato - Allegro energico," bursts with energy and vitality, while the second movement, "Sostenuto con vigore," maintains a strong, steady pace. The third movement, "Andante non troppo," provides a brief respite before the final "Allegro" brings the symphony to a thrilling close.

This album is a must-listen for fans of classical music, offering a deep dive into the works of a composer who skillfully navigates the complexities of symphonic writing. Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or a newcomer to Ivanovs' music, this recording promises an enriching and rewarding experience.
