Product description

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of John Ireland's "Ireland: 5 Poems / We'll To The Woods No More / Sea Fever / Santa Chiara," a captivating collection of English songs that beautifully showcases the composer's unique ability to convey deep emotion through music. Released in 2008 under the Naxos label, this album spans a total of 1 hour and 4 minutes, featuring a rich tapestry of 27 tracks that blend poetry and melody seamlessly.

The album opens with "Great Things" and "3 Songs: No. 1," setting the stage for a journey through Ireland's musical landscape. Standout pieces like "Sea Fever" and "The Bells of San Marie" highlight Ireland's mastery of evoking vivid imagery and atmosphere. The inclusion of texts by Alfred Edward Housman, such as in "We'll to the Woods No More," adds a literary depth that enriches the listening experience.

John Ireland, primarily known for his orchestral works, reveals a different facet of his genius in this collection of songs. Each piece is a testament to his ability to capture the essence of English poetry and translate it into music that resonates with both the heart and the mind. The collaboration with performers like Roderick Williams and Iain Burnside brings these songs to life, offering a performance that is both nuanced and powerful.

From the haunting beauty of "Santa Chiara" to the poignant reflections in "5 Poems," this album is a treasure trove of musical and poetic artistry. Whether you are a longtime fan of John Ireland or a newcomer to his work, this collection promises a rewarding and enriching experience. Dive into the world of John Ireland and discover the timeless beauty of his songs.
