Helen Forrest, born Helen Fogel on April 12, 1917, was a captivating American singer who became a symbol of the Big Band Swing Era. Known as "the voice of the name bands," she was the featured vocalist for three of the most popular big bands of her time. Her powerful and emotive voice graced full band arrangements, making her one of the first singers of the big band era to do so. Throughout World War II, her music became a cherished reminder of home for American soldiers.
