Fun experience, though the 5.1 aspect was a tad underwhelming. Everything else is top-notch.
I just stumbled upon a fantastic version of this. The record is see-through.
The audio quality is truly pleasant, though it might have a tad too much bass. In Search Of The Lost Chord was one of those vital albums in my existence, a record I spun over and over, marking my transition into adulthood. The title, for me, always symbolized severing the umbilical “chord” and seeking a reconnection to lost youth and innocence. This was arguably one of the most stunning, successful psychedelic albums ever made. Like their contemporaries, The Beatles, The Moody Blues were pioneering, experimenting, and learning studio techniques on the go. They seemed to be among the first to grasp and embrace the idea of personal music listening. The Lost Chord was a deeply immersive album in every sense—from its introspective cover, brimming with hidden meanings and drug-induced visions, to the densely layered music that enveloped the listener. The Moody Blues had a unique ability to transport listeners, almost into the ether, yet holding their attention so delicately that it was nearly impossible not to revisit their music repeatedly to uncover new passages, phrasings, and hidden messages. The music was vibrant and rich, with an airy quality, though there were few pauses to breathe, thanks primarily to the Mellotron and its interplay with flutes, cellos, guitars, and sitar. I wish I could call this album timeless, as it’s truly a wonderful experience, but the spoken words and recited poetry anchor it to a specific era. I usually avoid this statement, but this is one of those albums you had to experience during its release to fully appreciate the ground it broke and the impact it had on those of us fortunate enough to discover it. Still, In Search Of The Lost Chord is nearly an essential album in every way, a source of inspiration for countless bands. Though I don’t listen often, when I do, it’s deeply satisfying. *** The Fun Facts: In Search of the Lost Chord delivered magnificently on the musical front, and the cover does so visually as well. Artist Phil Travers had done some work for their label and was commissioned by the band to design the cover. He was invited to listen to the album at the band’s recording studio. Travers says the idea for the cover actually came to him while he was listening to the music in the studio, though he didn’t realize it at the time. “The recording and mixing area of the studio where I was sitting was separated from the area where the band would play by a large glass window, and in this glass I could see several images of myself, one above the other, almost as if I was ascending into space.” It all symbolizes life, death, and the ascension of the mind.
not sure if it's just mine or all of them but there's a bunch of crackles and pops, especially on the B side, even after I cleaned it a couple times with a damp velvet brush.
